The 2nd Annual Charlotte YP Mixer

  • Mint Museum UPTOWN

The Young Affiliates of the Mint are thrilled to announce The 2nd Annual Charlotte YP Mixer, sponsored by EatWorkPlay CLT, on October 20th, 2016 from 6pm-9pm. Taking place at the gorgeous 5th floor Grand Room of the Mint Museum Uptown, we are bringing together every single institutional Young Professional (YP) organization in Charlotte for a truly city-wide mixer. By bringing everyone together, we look forward to an exciting evening of collaboration, community, and cocktails to continue on our respective missions of making our city a better place to live and play.

This is a unique opportunity for individuals to not only explore the different interests and missions of Charlotte’s different YP organizations, but also meet and mingle with a large crowd of young professionals of all backgrounds. Unlike other events, we are structuring the mixer in a collaborative fashion so that organization tables are on the perimeter, and there is a true atmosphere of mixing and interacting of all participants in the center of the room. You may go to the perimeter to meet YP organization representatives at their respective tables, and/or mingle with the crowd in the center of the room.

Last year we had over 300 participants and 22 Young Professional Organizations. This year, we are anticipating over 30 YP organizations and about 500 participants with the momentum from last year, increase in number of organizations, and support from our incredible sponsor EatWorkPlay CLT, Charlotte’s lifestyle guide for the trendy Young Professional.

This is the current list of institutional YP organizations that are confirmed for this year, and the list is growing every day!

Envision & Empower provides an evening opportunity for the Charlotte community to come together and celebrate the transformative power of arts education on children in our community. For Envision & Empower, the YAMs partnered with Behailu Academy, an arts-based youth development program that empowers youth to find and use their voices through the arts, academics, and community service.

This coming spring, seven seniors will graduate from Behailu Academy; forever transformed by the incredible opportunity Behailu has given them to learn about themselves in a supportive environment, through the creation of art and music.

In preparation for this event, photographer Margaret Strickland had the unique pleasure of meeting and photographing the seven exiting seniors Envision & Empower. Margaret quickly picked up on a symbiotic relationship between the students of Behailu Academy and the arts. Margaret captured the essence of this artistic engagement in photographs that will be on display at the event. In reflection of her meeting the seniors of Behailu, Margaret stated, “I was profoundly impacted by the stories of the students at Behailu. I met a musician, a marine, an illustrator, photographers, and designers. It is obvious that the drive, confidence and talent of these students are due in large part to the friendships and experiences made possible by Behailu Academy. These seniors have used their time at Behailu to support each other, define themselves, and dream big about their futures.”

Behailu Academy students that participated in this collaboration and keynote speaker, Senator Jeff Jackson, will join the YAMs for this evening event. Guests will enjoy jazz musician, Buff Dillard, and a cash bar will be available with wine, beer and liquor for purchase.

Please join the YAMs at Envision & Empower to join us and help us raise awareness about the impact of art on youth in our community. Your sponsorship will directly influence the Mint Museum’s ability to provide education and programs to children.

Watercolor Workshop with the YAMs

  • Free Range Brewing

The Young Affiliates of the Mint are excited to offer this exclusive and special workshop led by lauded McColl Center Resident Alumnus Charles Williams!  And better yet, we are partnering with the Bechtler Young Visionaries (BYVs) and the ASC Young Donor's Society (YDS), to offer this private watercolor workshop at Free Range Brewing on Saturday, February 27 from 2pm-5pm.

Charles Williams is a lauded McColl Center Artist Resident Alumnus, whose paintings draw from a long fascination with connections between human emotions and the natural world. Deeply personal and inscribed with a tone meant to inspire hope and personal awareness, Williams’ realistic depictions of oceans and marshy landscapes invite the viewer to share in his vision from a point of introspection and contemplation. His work has garnered numerous awards, including the 2013 Griffith/Reyburn Artist of the Year Award. During the workshop, the talented artist Charles Williams plans to share his experience as a McColl Center resident and his creative process!

Because seating is limited for this private workshop, RSVPs are limited to the first 16 people who buy tickets in the provided link.

The cost is $25/person, and is simply to cover the cost of the event. The event starts at 2pm with a Social, with the Workshop starting at 3pm. There will be beer for sale at Free Range, Food trucks will arrive at 5pm, and Orman's cheese shop will have free samples and items for sale.

We’re extremely excited for this unique event, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Fall Ball 2015: Moulin Mint

  • Mint Museum Uptown

Journey back to late 19th-century Paris with the Young Affiliates of the Mint for Fall Ball 2015: Moulin Mint. This year, our signature gala will be a celebration of La Belle Époque, the golden age of Paris when art and culture flourished. The Moulin Rouge opened, the World's Fair came to Paris, the Eiffel Tower was built, and the Impressionists finally gained the recognition they deserved.

Come dance the night away at this black-tie celebration that will be sure to rival those held at the cabarets during this carefree era. Enjoy French-inspired cuisine, an open bar, live music by 5 on Sundays, and access to the Mint's galleries. All proceeds from the event will be used to help offset the cost of providing tours of the Mint Museum to Charlotte-Mecklenburg students.

An after party will be held at Vapiano following the event - more details to come!

Thanks to all of our generous sponsors:
